Since 1996, University of Western States chiropractic clinicians and attending physicians have been involved in the Clinical Standards, Protocols and Education (CSPE) project. The CSPE project has resulted in the development of Care Pathways and Clinical Protocols -- tools core to UWS clinical training.
Ron LeFebvre, DC, states that “In developing pathways for each condition, we begin with a literature search to assist us in finding the best evidence to aid in diagnosing and treating a particular condition. This evidence is artfully blended with the collective experience and expertise of the clinical staff as well as the content experts teaching the regular classes at the college. The final product is a practical ‘how to’ manual to aid the practitioner in all aspects of patient care. In addition, a large number of protocols have been developed around a variety of procedures (e.g., cross friction massage, low back rehabilitation), situations (e.g., domestic violence, time sensitive referrals) and other topics.”
